Social Impact Programs


Being involved in the Bay Area community is an important way to act on social interests, gain work experience, and network for future employment opportunities. The Center facilitates MBA community involvement through these social impact programs, experiential learning opportunities, and students clubs:

 


Board-Fellows Berkeley Board Fellows
Graduate students gain valuable top-level governance experience serving on nonprofit boards of directors and applying their talents to a strategic project.
Social-Sector-Solutions

Social Sector Solutions (S3)
This flagship experiential learning course allows students to tackle complex problems with nonprofit and public organizations and social enterprises under the guidance of professional management consultants and experienced faculty.

Social Impact Career Mentoring Program
Mentoring hours through the Center for Nonprofit and Public Leadership pairs students with experienced professionals and alumni in the social sector.

 

Packard Foundation Fellowships
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation and the Center offer a unique opportunity to provide recently graduated business and policy students an introduction to philanthropy.

 


HFS
Haas Social Impact Fund (HSIF)
HSIF provides grants to first-year, full-time MBA students who accept summer internships in the nonprofit or public sectors. These grants allow students to put their Haas MBA to use for organizations that are doing important work in communities around the world but cannot offer to pay a "typical" MBA salary.
Schwab Schwab Charitable Philanthropy Speaker Series
Schwab Charitable Philanthropy Speakers Series brings thought leaders and practitioners from the social sector to Berkeley-Haas to share their insights and experiences with students, alumni, and community members. This year-long speaker series, now in its fourth year, tackles cutting-edge issues and explores best practices for social impact. 
Cal Strategic Philanthropy Cal Strategic Philanthropy: Real Money, Real Impact
Based on an award‐winning curriculum developed by UC Berkeley undergraduates, the course teaches students how to be effective philanthropists. Grant funding is generously provided by the Learning by Giving Foundation.
ELCC Education Leadership Case Competition (ELCC)
The Education Leadership Case Competition will have a positive impact on America's public schools by developing innovative solutions for today’s education challenges and strong leaders for tomorrow’s education reforms.
GSVC Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC)
The Global Social Venture Competition is the largest and oldest student-led business plan competition providing mentoring, exposure, and prizes for social ventures from around the world. The mission of the GSVC is to catalyze the creation of social ventures, educate future leaders and build awareness of social enterprises. The competition supports the creation of real businesses that bring about positive social change in a sustainable manner.
Net-Impact Net Impact Club
The mission of Haas' local Net Impact chapter is to inspire, educate, and equip Haas students to use the power of business to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable world.
IDEC International Development & Enterprise Club (IDEC)
IDEC is for students with deep interests in international development in a wide range of sectors including Public Health, IT & Telecommunications, Energy, Financial Services, Education and Agriculture. IDEC is focused on bringing together a network of graduate students interested in exploring the connection between development and enterprise.
